Instrumental
In addition to general music and chorus, students at Linntown have the opportunity to participate in instrumental ensembles. String orchestra begins in 4th grade and band begins in 5th grade. Students who are interested in learning an instrument receive small group instruction once per six-day cycle for 30 minutes with like-instruments. During these lessons students learn specific techniques and information for their assigned instrument. Ensemble students also meet as a large group once per six-day cycle for 40 minutes to rehearse their different parts together and prepare for performances. Typically there are two concerts per school year; one in the winter and one in the spring. Occasionally there are other performance opportunities afforded to instrumental ensemble students. You can reinforce what our musicians are learning in school by encouraging them to play their instruments at home, listening to music together, attending performances, and asking about the activities happening in ensembles and music class.
